Sewing, dressmaking/designing cup cakes
You will need:
Tools- Circle cutter to cover the cake, Number 1.5-2 piping nozzle, piping bag (or grease proof paper piping bag), straight-edged modelling tool, small dry paint brush (for sticking).
Materials- Purple, grey, brown, black and white sugar paste and white royal icing (or alternative colours to suit your project)
Cover all of your cup cakes first.
Roll out white paste, cut 2 rough rectangles about 2/3 the height of your cake high and about 1/2 the width of the cake wide.
Stick the rectangles on to the cake side by side, touching at the bottom, slightly separate further up. Mark small holes along the adjacent edges.
Pipe white lines from inside the holes to the opposite hole. Pipe a strand going away from the cake.
Roll a grey sausage, tapering at one end, mark an ‘eye’ with your modelling tool. Place on to the end of the piping.
Pipe a ‘tail’ from the needle to create the end of the thread.
Make a thick rectangle of white paste. Pinch in the middle to form a waist.
Roll a sausage of brown paste to make a stand and neck. Stick to the cake at the centre top and bottom of the dummy.
Pin out a small piece of purple sugar paste.
Pin out a larger piece of sugar paste in a different shade of purple.
Arrange the pieces of sugar paste in folds and curves to represent fabric.
Roll out a small sausage of each purple and white paste. Flatten into a rectangle.
Roll 2 small balls of grey paste, flatten into circles then cut in half to semi-circles.
Attach a semi-circle of grey at each end of the rectangles. Mark lines across the ‘thread’. Roll very small thin sausages of purple and white to make the ends of the thread reel.
Roll small, short sausages of grey. Taper to a point at one end.
Make a slightly larger tapered sausage as a needle. Mark the ‘eye’ hole with your modelling tool.
Stick all the pieces on to the cake. Pipe white dots as heads for the pins.
Roll 2 small sausages of grey. Taper at one end and cut to the same length. Curl the non tapered end around the tip of your modelling tool to make the handles.
Stick the two sides of your scissors together. Separate the sharp ends to look like they are cutting.
Roll a thin square of purple paste.
Cut the rectangle horizontally, half way along. Stick the scissors on to the cake in the cut section.
