What’s new pussycat? Purrfect! Cartoon cat cup cake tutorial (part 1)

Cartoon cat cupcakes.

ideal for birthdays, tea parties etc. Who’s your favourite? Let me know if you think I’ve missed one.

Part 1- Pink Panther, Cheshire cat and Custard.

You will need:

Tools- Circle cutter to cover the cake, Number 1.5-2 piping nozzle, piping bag (or grease proof paper piping bag), straight edged modelling tool, small dry paint brush (for sticking).

Materials- 3 shades of pink, yellow and white sugar paste and black royal icing.

Cover all of your cup cakes first.


Roll out some white icing to almost paper thin.

Cut a crescent shaped smile most of the length of your cup cake.

Make two small balls of white sugar paste, flatten onto the cake at eye level.

Make 2 small triangles of pink sugar paste, attach to the outside edge in line with the eyes.

Pipe small dots for pupils and a large oval for his nose (or make a nose in black sugar paste);

Pipe around the edge of the mouth,across the centre and 5 vertical lines to mark teeth.

Pipe 3 whiskers from under the nose to the outside edge.

Pipe whiskers on the other side.

Cheshire cat

Roll a large ‘sausage’ of light pink. Roll more in the middle to make the centre thinner.

Flatten the ‘sausage’ across the middle of the cake.

Roll a thinner pale pink ‘sausage’ and a narrow white one.

Lie the white ‘sausage’ along under the top lip as teeth. Flatten the pink ‘sausage’ along the bottom edge of the cake. Mark a point in the centre.

Roll a small ball of dark pink.

Position it as the tongue and mark the centre vertical line with your modelling tool.

Mark a vertical line in the top lip. Make a small triangle of dark pink, place as his nose.

Roll 2 small circles of yellow. Flatten on to the cake as eyes.

Make 2 pink triangles (in the main cup cake colour). Attach as ears just above the eyes.

Roll 2 small ‘sausages’ of dark pink.

Fold over and twist lightly to stick.

Stick on between the ears as eyebrows.

Pipe pupils and dimples in black. Pipe along the edges of the mouth and the teeth.

Pink Panther

Roll a large pale pink ball. Flatten onto the bottom of your cup cake. Mark a curved, horizontal line as the mouth.

Mark a vertical muzzle line.

Make a dark pink triangle, stick on as his nose.

Roll 2 medium balls of pink and 2 small balls of yellow.

Flatten the yellow balls onto the cake above the nose as eyes.

Stick the pink balls on the top, outside edge as ears.

Mark holes in the ears with a rounded modelling tool.

 Pipe on eyebrows, pupils and whiskers.
